| Learning Disability Network of India | |
|
Samveda Training and Research center a registered NGO dedicated to the Rehabilitation of children with LD arranged a workshop for all NGOs who have similar objectives, on the 27 and 28 October 2001. 15 such NGOs working in the southern part of India attended the two-day workshop and came to certain conclusions: ? NGOs dedicated to the field of LD should come under an umbrella organization Learning Disability Network of India. This is because networking helps to establish a good platform to express solidarity and share experiences and expertise. It also helps to initiate a common minimum programme to create an impact on the policies of the government that affect children with learning disability. ? This umbrella organization should disperse information to its members and share knowledge related to the field of learning disability. ? It should enable the existing NGOs to consolidate their thinking and initiate collective action for social justice and research related to learning disability. ? The Learning disability Networking of India should help share information, database, common assessment procedures etc. This will also be useful in creating awareness on Learning disability among parents, children and society as a whole. Lobbying for the cause of Learning Disability demands authenticity, satisfaction and common understanding among all those who are working in this field and this network would provide all that. To continue this process of coming under an umbrella organization, these 15 NGOs again met on 24 February 2001 at Alpha to Omega, Chennai.
